What is a Canine Good Citizen? According to the American Kennel Club (AKC) here's the answer:
Started in 1989, CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.
Many dog owners choose Canine Good Citizen training as the first step in training their dogs. The Canine Good Citizen Program lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events. As you work with your dog to teach the CGC skills, you'll discover the many benefits and joys of training your dog. Training will enhance the bond between you and your dog. Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with - they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, intellectual stimulation, and a high quality life.
We offer two courses culminating with the test Canine Good Citizen test. The first, and a favorite of many dog owners, is the eight week course held at The Feed Barn in Martell. This class is intended for social dogs that have had little or no obedience training. It is also great as a refresher or "tune-up" for those with training experience. We take you through all the steps and help you train your dog to be a Good Citizen. We will start with the basics and move on to the most difficult exercises. Whether it is meeting another dog or accepting a three minute separation, we will show you the techniques and methods to teach your K-9 best friend.
For social dogswho have mastered the basic obedience skills and graduated from a basic class, we offer a four week "fast track" Canine Good Citizen class. In this course, we focus on the ten steps that are on the test and work on specific problem areas.

Rally obedience is a great way to have fun with your dog and learn some intermediate obedience. Rally is a great way to move from the Basic Obedience or Canine Good Citizen class into more advanced training. Within the AKC world, Rally is intended to to be the next step from the Canine Good Citizen. Then for more advanced training, there is the traditional obedience.
Rally is all about having fun with your dog and developing a sense of teamwork. Rally involves a course with signs calling for specific moves, such as sit, down, or a change in pace. We start with a Novice class and move up to an Excellent class. The stations, or signs, get more difficult as dog and handler proceed through the classes.
Our Rally Class builds on what has been learned in the Basic Obedience and/or the Canine Good Citizen Class and fine tunes the techniques. We also work to further develop the teamwork and communication between you and your pet. The classes are designed and intended to be fun.
So come join us and see what all the excitement is about with this new dog sport!
